The Wassenberg Camera Club met Thursday, May 10, at the Wassenberg Art Center for their regular monthly meeting. Weather was the competition theme for prints and slides. Visitor Glenda Holloway of Willshire said she’d read about the meeting and had brought some of her weather pictures. Her dramatic print of multiple lightning strikes won first place in prints! A slide by Rex Dolby of heavy rain on the flooded street in front of his driveway was selected as the winning slide.

In other business, acting treasurer Karl Gribler reported that income from the club’s $5 Discount Cards is a little behind last year’s amount, but also added that there are members who have yet to turn in their money. He hopes to receive it soon. Cards are still available and can be used until April 1, 2013. Frickers, DQ, Precision Painting LLC, Collins Fine Foods, and Balyeat’s Coffee Shop are just a few of the participating businesses who’ve kindly offered free and discounted stuff! President Doug Heckler announced that on Saturday, he would be attending the “Biggest Week of American Birding” at Magee Marsh, Oak Harbor, with a side trip to the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge just down the road from Magee Marsh. He invited all who were interested to accompany him.  He also pointed out that the Spring Rendezvous at Camp Clay May 19 and 20 should provide club members plenty of opportunity to get some interesting historical shots.

Suggestions to possibly stimulate participation in club activities that were offered by the Wassenberg Art Center Director Hope Wallace generated considerable discussion. Further discussions will be held at future meetings.

Doug reported that he and Karl would be purchasing the new club laptop in the very near future and then will begin the transfer of programs and data to it from the present unit.  He also said that six members had been to the Lima funeral home to show support for Jan Sorensen in the loss of her husband, Bill.

The question of the categories for this year’s fair came up. A search of the secretary’s notes revealed that the fair board selected: Around the Fair, Landscape, Fresh Produce, In the Air, and Dolls. Any of these pictures may be color or B/W and all must fit in a frame no larger than 8×10. Let us know if you have any questions regarding these categories and entering the Van Wert County Fair competition please let us know.
