CONVOY — The Ohio State Highway Patrol visited a kindergarten classroom at Crestview Elementary School in Convoy on May 10. Trooper Joshua T. Menke spoke to Julie Cook’s kindergarten class and shared a book with students about school bus safety.

Trooper Menke also spoke about strangers and good habits to use, such as not talking to strangers. They also discussed who their friends are and Trooper Menke reminded them police officers, state troopers, and teachers are their friends. He urged the students to speak with officers and teachers if they have an important question or needed help. Child-sized Stetsons were given to the kindergarten class, along with a coloring book.
“We want the kids to become comfortable approaching law enforcement officers,” Trooper Menke said. “The kids had fun and asked a lot of questions.”
Trooper Menke is currently assigned to the Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and has been a trooper since early February 2012.
The students also had the opportunity to view a new Patrol Dodge Charger cruiser. Dodge Chargers are replacing Ford Crown Victorias and will become the new look for the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
