Crestview honors 8 retiring teachers

CONVOY — The Crestview Local Board of Education honored eight retiring teachers during its May meeting held Monday evening.
Plaques were given to Jon Amundson, Sharyn Black, Mark Hanover, Keith Langdon, Eunice Mefferd, Terry Plas, Nancy Speelman and Terri Sutton in recognition of their years of service to the school district, and education in general (click here for a larger photo).

“It was my pleasure to work with these people over the past four years,” said Superintendent Mike Estes. “We have a lot of experience leaving, experience that we will dearly miss.”
In other personnel action, the board hired some teaching replacements, including Steve Sealscott and Lindsey Martinez as intervention specialists, Lindsay Ebbeskotte as an elementary teacher, Christine Albright as a grades 7-12 language arts teacher, and Hannah Phlipot as a middle school science teacher. The board also approved reassigning Anne Myers to the position of elementary intervention specialist and Ali Sawmiller to the position of high school Life Science instructor.
A three-year contract was also approved for Geoff Waddles as maintenance/custodial supervisor, while the board also accepted the resignation of Trey Stover as a middle school math teacher and as eighth grade boys’ basketball coach after serving six years with the district. Estes said Stover had taken a position with Parkway Local Schools.
Also Monday, board members approved the list of graduating seniors for this year’s commencement ceremonies, contingent on students completing all requirements. Graduation will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 9, in the high school gymnasium.
Contracts were also approved for several members of the football coaching staff. They include Jon Van Cleave, Shaun Balliet, Corbin Vance and Steve Sealscott, junior varsity coaches; Matt Perkins and James Lautzenheiser, freshman football coaches; Chris Roop, Tom Riggenbach and Craig Taylor, junior high football coaches; and Kyle Balliet, junior high coaching volunteer.
The board also approved a settlement agreement between Crestview, ACI Construction Company, and the Ohio School Facilities Commission related to work done on the district OSFC facilities project.
In other action, the board:
- Approved elementary, middle school/high school, athletic department, choir and band handbooks for the coming school year.
- Renewed a contract with the Northwest Ohio Education Technology entity.
- Renewed membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
- Approved a resolution congratulating members of the school FFA and advisor Paul Pohlman for a successful trip to the state convention.
- Approved the treasurer’s report and five-year forecast.
- Approved a revised parent information brochure for gifted identification and services.
- Went into executive session to discuss personnel matters, with no action taken afterward.
The next meeting of the Crestview Local Board of Education will be at 6 p.m. Monday, June 18, in the district boardroom.
