Homestead exemption filing ends soon

Van Wert County Auditor Nancy Dixon announces that the deadline this year for filing for the homestead exemption is Monday, June 4.

The exemption provides a real estate tax reduction for those who are at least 65 years old or disabled. Those qualifying must own and occupy the home as their principal place of residence as of January 1 of the year being applied for. A life estate is a qualified ownership.

Applications can be made for a Van Wert County residence through the County Auditor’s Office, Room 205 in the Courthouse or call 419.238.0843.

Those who have already filed, and no changes to ownership have occurred, need not re-apply.
