New VW tennis complex opens today

Information submitted

The Van Wert County Tennis Association (VWCTA) has announced that the new tennis complex located behind Van Wert High School will be open to the public, starting today at 1 p.m.  The six courts will be open daily until 11 p.m., while three of the courts have lights for night play.

The new tennis complex is shown in an aerial photo taken by local resident Randy Thompson.

The tennis building, which will house a unisex restroom, a concession area, a storage room and a donor recognition wall, is still under construction and will not be available to the public for the next several weeks. Security cameras cover the entire complex.

School play and events planned by the VWCTA will take precedence over individual play. The association will list these activities on the bulletin board located at the entrance to the courtyard.

The grand opening for the complex will be held on Saturday, June 23, at 2 p.m.  The public is invited to attend.

The entire project is funded by private donations. To make a tax-deductible donation, send the gift to The Van Wert County Foundation at 130 E. Main St., Van Wert, OH 45891. Checks should be made payable to the Van Wert County Foundation – tennis project.

For more information, contact Wayne Kilton, president of the VWCTA, at 419.238.9041, or by email at Kilton@wcoil.com.
