Historical Society officially opening center

Jon Amundson, president of the Van Wert County Historical Society, has announced that the historical society will officially open the museum’s new Welcome Center/Research Library and Gift Shop on Saturday, June 2, at 2 p.m. After the ribboncutting ceremony, the other buildings on the campus also will be open from 2-3:30 p.m.

In 2009, the trustees purchased the property at 133 E. Third St. Over the past two years, Vantage Career Center’s Buildings and Grounds classes taught by Larry Mengerink and assisted by Brenda Wurst have renovated the structure.

Financial support for the project was provided by Paulding Putnam Electrical Cooperative, the Cooper Family Foundation, Iberdrola Renewables, and Scott and Nikki Niswonger. Parking is available behind the Welcome Center.
