Man charged in stabbing of brother

A Van Wert man is in critical condition this morning after being stabbed early today behind a local bar. His brother is in jail, charged with stabbing him.

The Van Wert Police Department received a call from Caleb S. Mech, who reported that his brother, 22-year-old Isaac Mech, had been stabbed behind CJ Sidepockets on North Washington Street. Both men are living at 510½ Gordon Ave.

The Van Wert Fire Department EMS squad responded to the scene with police and provided emergency treatment to the victim, who had been stabbed in the neck.

He was then taken to Van Wert County Hospital and later life-flighted to Lutheran Hospital of Indiana in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he remains in critical condition.

Meanwhile, city detectives interviewed Caleb Mech and the 26-year-old later confessed to stabbing his brother. He has been charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony, in conjunction with the incident.
