Patrol having another recruitment day

The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be holding another area recruitment day, this time at Indiana Institute of Technology in Fort Wayne, Ind., from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, June 14.

The recruitment effort by Sergeant Jonathon Gray, assistant commander of the Van Wert Patrol Post, and Trooper Teri Cavin, Patrol recruiter, will be held in the Andorfer Commons cafeteria, 1600 E. Washington Blvd. in Fort Wayne.

Applications and informational packets will be available to be filled out on site for the position of trooper. Highway Patrol Academy classes will be held in September and November of this year and in February 2013.

Minimum requirements to be a trooper include being age 20-34, having a valid driver’s license and having a high school diploma or GED. To be accepted for training, an applicant must take and pass a written examination, background investigation, polygraph investigation, medical exam, physical fitness assessment and a psychological evaluation.

Once accepted into the training academy, cadets will undergo strenuous physical activity and testing and be required to pass several areas of study, including firearms, emergency vehicle operations, self-defense, first aid and CPR, and a number of other areas of law enforcement training.
