Four injured in Monday morning crash

ANTWERP — The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at 12:45 Monday morning on U.S. 24, at the intersection of Paulding County Road 21 in Paulding County. The crash happened approximately one mile west of the village of Antwerp.

A 2004 Ford Focus was attempting to cross U.S. 24 on County Road 21. A 2012 Volvo semi tractor-trailer rig driven by Richard Smith Jr. of St. Louis, Mo., was on U.S. 24. The driver of the Ford Focus failed to yield to the semi and was struck in the passenger side.  The driver of the Ford Focus is still undetermined at this time, but occupants of the car were Brandon E. Sims, 24, Tiffany M. Sims, 18, and Amanda R. Kohli, 18, all of Toledo.

Samaritan LifeFlight and Antwerp EMS transported the occupants of the Ford Focus to Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.  Smith was transported to Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital by Antwerp EMS.

The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Antwerp Volunteer Fire and EMS, Samaritan LifeFlight, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Department, Gideon’s Wrecker, and Hoagy’s Wrecker Service.

The crash is still under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and seat belt use is unknown.

The victims transported to Parkview Regional Hospital are currently listed in stable condition.
