Middle Point Ballpark Festival dates set

MIDDLE POINT — The third annual Middle Point Ballpark Festival has been scheduled for Friday-Sunday, July 27-29. This year’s event will feature a sand volleyball tournament, softball tournament, 10 and under and 12 and under boys’ baseball tournament, a cornhole tournament and 5k-Fun run. Information on the individual events is as follows:

  • Coed Sand Volleyball Tournament — Sand volleyball courts, 6 on 6 recreational tournament, fee is $60 per team. To register, contact Ryanne Bollenbacher at bolly33@bright.net. This will be taking place on Saturday.
  • Men’s Softball Tournament — Diamond A, $150 entry fee, Double Elimination, One up Home run rule applies, 1-1 count with grace, hit your own ball – 44 core (max 520 compression), 1.2 BPF bat rules apply, mat behind home plate, contact Kevin Price at 419.605.8708 or k2thap@hotmail.com to enter. This will be taking place on Saturday and possibly Sunday.
  • Cornhole Tournament — Saturday at noon on basketball courts; fee is $30 per team, Payouts to top three teams (depending on number of teams), Contact Jeremy Ebel for details at 419.203.6245 or email jebel@roadrunner.com. No need to pre-register to enter. Just show up at the courts 15-30 minutes before hand.
  • 10U and 12U Year Boys’ Baseball Tournament — Diamonds B and C, $150 entry fee and three balls, First eight teams in each division will be accepted. Each team guaranteed three games; format is pool play with top two teams advancing to single-elimination tournament; age cutoff is May 1, 2010. Two pools in each division. Contact Chris Youtsey at 419.203.4772 or Chad Overholt at 419.203.7314 for details. Once all teams are in, rules will be given for each division. Prizes to be awarded for first place (bat bags and medals) and second place (medals). This will likely start Friday night and run all day Saturday and possibly into Sunday.
  • 5K-1 Mile Fun Run — $12 Preregistration and t-shirt. $10 for no t-shirt and/or race day registration entry for 5K, $1 entry for half-mile fun run, Contact Matt and Crista Owens at 419.968.2430 or email owens262@mac.com. This will be run Saturday morning. Kids’ half-mile fun run will begin at 8 a.m., with the 5K to start at 8:15 that morning.
  • 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday — This will be held at the basketball courts, starting at 6 p.m. Fee is $20 per team. No pre-registration will be done. Just bring a three-man team at the designated time with an entry fee to play. Lincolnview’s Coach Brett Hammons will be coordinating the tournament. T-shirts will be given to the winners.

In addition to the various sporting events, there will be a shaved ice stand and concessions will be available all weekend. The Community Building is reserved this year, so there are options for it. Anyone who has any suggestions and is willing to assist with its operation should post on the wall!
