YWCA seeks Backpack Meals volunteers

YWCA information

The YWCA is seeking volunteers to help support the Weekend Backpack Meals Program. The YWCA of Van Wert County will be offering for the first time ever free weekend backpack meals to children ages 4-18 in our community who a participate in the Summer Food Program.

These backpacks are handed out every Friday at the end of our Summer Food Program day.  Support is needed in putting the backpacks together. Volunteers are needed on Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. through early August. Between three and five volunteers are needed each week. Please consider getting a group of friends or even an organization or business together to volunteer.

In order to be eligible for these meals, children must be present for lunch served Fridays by the Summer Food Program at the YWCA. These free, kid-friendly meal packs will each include two pre-packaged breakfast meals, four pre-packaged lunch/dinner meals, one white milk, and one chocolate milk.  All of the meals meet federal guidelines.

If you, your organization or business is interested in helping with this project, please contact Danni Chiles, Program Director, at 419.238.6639.

The YWCA is a United Way and Van Wert County Foundation funded agency.
