CONVOY — The Crestview Local Board of Education took a number of personnel actions and also heard an update on work being done as part of the district’s Ohio School Facilities Commission facilities project.
Superintendent Mike Estes reported that work on replacing interior doors and rubber floor tile are proceeding, but not as quickly as expected. In fact, Estes was skeptical that installation of the rubber tiles would be completed by the beginning of school, now just 7½ weeks away, because of a five-week delay early in the project. The reason for his skepticism, Estes noted, is because of the extremely tight specifications on the tile installation project.
“Let’s keep our fingers crossed (the project is completed before school starts),” Estes told board members.
The floor tile delays have also held up installation of the interior doors, of which the superintendent said approximately 60 percent have been installed.
Work on the elementary playground was also discussed, with Estes noting that half of the playground adhesive has been laid, while asphalt sealing of the playground began on Monday.
A number of supplemental personnel contracts were also approved during Monday’s board meeting. Those granted supplemental contracts include Pam Brown, Danille Hancock, Dan Kline, Kristie McCormick, Gregg Mosier and Shawn Schuette, junior class advisors; Lindsay Martinez, Linda McCann, Ali Sawmiller, Josh Thomas and Jim Wharton, sophomore class advisors; Christa Gasser, FCCLA advisor; Kristy Bagley, volleyball assistant; Dianna Hicks, junior varsity volleyball coach; Hannah Phlipot, eighth grade volleyball coach; and Trista Semer, seventh grade volleyball coach.
Sara Owens was also approved as a volunteer volleyball coach for the upcoming school year.
The board also approved athletic ticket prices, lunch prices, Latchkey fees and workbook fees, as presented, with little change from the previous year, Estes said.
Treasurer Laura Metzger said this immediate past fiscal year was similar to the previous three years, and provided numbers going back to 2009 to support that conclusion.
New teacher orientation will begin August 19, with a large number of new teachers this year replacing several longtime teachers who retired last year.
In other action, the board:
Approved the 2013 Comprehensive Consolidated Application for Federal Funds totaling $398,621.
Accepted, with thanks, the following donations: $1,500 from The Van Wert County Foundation for the district music department, and $931 from the Klein Trust of The Van Wert County Foundation for needy students.
Approved a computer services agreement with the Northwest Ohio Area Computer Services Cooperative (NOACSC) as presented.
Approved a change in representation for the Van Wert Area Schools Insurance Group to note the separation of the NOACSC from the Western Buckeye Educational Service Center.
Heard an update from Board member Lori Bittner on the most recent PRIDE Committee meeting. Bittner said the district passed all test areas of the Ohio Achievement Assessments, and also noted that the committee would be developing a new two-year agenda this coming year. Lonnie Nedderman also reported on the July Vantage Board of Education meeting.
Learned that handrails for the elementary gymnasium were delivered, but some were damaged.
Selected October 12 and March 1, 2013, as Ohio District Operational Waiver Days, to be used for staff development purposes.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Crestview Local Board of Education will be at 6 p.m. Monday, August 20, in the district boardroom.
