Community band plans concert in park

On Friday, August 3, the Van Wert Area Community Concert Band will present a concert in the band shell of Fountain Park in Van Wert. The program will begin at 7 p.m.

Music performed on the concert will contain a wide variety of musical genre to include: marches, dance tunes, swing, rock and roll, the Olympic Fanfare and unique concert selections.

A highlight of the program will be the premiere performance of an original composition titled, “In Memoriam,” to September 11, 2001.  This piece is written by one of our newest band members and recent Parkway H.S. graduate, Ms. Amy Roth.

A food stand will be available starting at 5:30. The menu will include: hot dogs, Coney dogs, chips, cookies, pie, ice cream and drinks.  Donations will be accepted for the food items as well as the concert.

Area residents are invited to join the band, which is directed by Richard Sherrick and features members from the area communities of Van Wert, Elida, Lima, Delphos, Convoy, Payne, Chattanooga, Middle Point, Decatur, Ind., and Rockford, for this entertaining concert.

In the event of inclement weather, the program will be canceled.
