Rib Fest cornhole contest deadline today

Just a reminder that the deadline for the Rib Fest Cornhole Tournament is today, July 27.  The tournament, sponsored by First Bank of Berne, will be held Saturday, August 4, at 1 p.m. during the sixth annual Van Wert Rib Fest. Entry fee is $20 per team.  Registration forms may be picked up at the Van Wert Area CVB office, 136 E. Main St., or any First Bank of Berne location. Pre-registration is required.

The deadline for registration for the Rib Fest Youth Wiffleball Tournament is Monday, July 30. The tournament will be held Saturday, August 4, beginning at 8 a.m. Teams are to have 10 members. Entry fee is $80 per team. Registration forms are available at the Van Wert Area CVB office.

For euchre fans out there, the first annual Rib Fest Euchre Tournament will be held on Friday, August 3, from 2-4 p.m. This event is being organized at the Van Wert Area Council on Aging and sponsored by Iberdrola Renewables’ Blue Creek Wind Project.  Pre-registration is required and may be done by calling the Van Wert Council on Aging at 419.238.5011.

Area residents are also reminded that the United Way of Van Wert County is organizing a “When Pigs Fly” event sponsored by First Federal Savings and Loan of Van Wert.  At approximately 2 p.m. on Aug. 4, little plastic piggies will be dropped from overhead and fly over the festival grounds as part of the fundraiser.  Each pig is numbered to a corresponding raffle ticket that the United Way is selling for $10 each. The person holding the number of the piggy that lands closest to the “pig pen,” wins $750.  The second-place prize is $250 and the furthest away from the target also wins $250. In case of a tie the money will be divided equally.

Tickets may be obtained from any United Way Board member, the United Way office at 1151 Westwood Drive or by calling them at 419.238.6689.  Tickets are also available at the Van Wert Area Convention and Visitors office at 136 E. Main Street.
