Cougar golfers defeated by Bryan
BRYAN — Orchard Hills Country Club and the Bryan Golden Bears took advantage of the Cougars on Tuesday as both the varsity and junior varsity golf teams competed in a dual match Tuesday morning.
Bryan turned in a score of 327 in the 18-hole match and their No. 1 golfer, Luke Shaffer, fired a 76. Van Wert was led by Jacob Brake, who scored a 77, firing a one-over 36 on the back nine.
Other Van Wert varsity scores included Brandon Hernandez, 83; Tyler Turnwald, 87; Adam Jurczyk, 95; Luke Etzler, 99; and Justin Price, 106.
The JV team played the front nine behind the varsity and was led by Robbie Trittschuh, who shot 50. Van Wert JVs lost the match 205-227.
The Cougars return to action at the always-tough Liberty-Benton tournament at Sycamore Springs outside of Arlington. The JVs will participate in the Celina Invitational on Thursday.
