YMCA sets date for Fall 5K Run/Walk

The YMCA of Van Wert County will be holding its Fall 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 15, at YMCA Camp Clay, 9196 Liberty Union Road, Van Wert.  The run/walk will begin its 3.1-mile loop at 8:30 a.m.  Cash prizes for overall male and female winners.

“We are excited to be able to offer prize money to overall and second place male and female winners again this fall.  The top runner in each division will receive $100, second place will receive $50,” stated Julie Schaufelberger, Y wellness director.  An additional $50 is available as bonus winnings if either of the top male or female break the “challenge time” set for the 3.1-mile flat course record.

“We are offering a free pancake breakfast for all pre-registered runners and additional breakfasts will be available for $3 for non-participants,” added Schaufelberger.   The breakfast will be held in the pavilion immediately following the race.

Race registration forms are available at the front desk of the Y, online under events at www.vwymca.org or by emailing julie@vwymca.org. Pre-registration is due by Wednesday, September 5.  Pre-registration is $20, which includes a t-shirt, or $15 if no t-shirt is preferred.  On-site registration will also be available at the event, starting at 7:30 a.m.  On-site registration is $20, with no t-shirt.  Extra shirts will be available to purchase at the event for $5.

Age group awards will also be given following the event.  All proceeds from the event will be used for fitness equipment updates in the YMCA fitness center and weight room.
