YMCA releases fall fitness schedule
YMCA information
The YMCA of Van Wert County announces new Fall Fitness Class Schedule, which will begin Monday, September 10. All classes are free with a membership, and available to all members over 13 years of age.
Being added to the existing classes of cycling, powersculpt, cardiopump, yoga, SilverSneakers and H2O cardio will be Xpress cycling and wellness center circuits over the lunch hour, for those who need a quick workout in the middle of the day, as well TurboKick. Liquid Heat, a high intensity cardio and strength training session in the water, will also return.
The new TurboKick class is a blend of hip hop dance and kickboxing that claims to torch up to 1,000 calories per hour. The “turbo” part comes in from 1-2 minute high intensity blasts inserted several times into the workout to increase heart rate and calorie burn. The hip hop dance aspect of Turbokick is very appealing to many people who want a dance type of workout with a higher, more aggressive intensity, but can be modified for all fitness levels and joint issues.
Turbokick will be available to all members on Mondays at 5:15-6 p.m. and Thursdays, 6:15-7 p.m., and an Xpress class on Saturdays from 7:30-8 p.m. for full members holding after-hours key fobs. The class will feature the “turbo” portion of the workout in a high intensity 30-minute session.
“We are very excited about this fall fitness class line-up,” said Julie Schaufelberger, Y wellness director. “We really feel there is something for everyone.
“TurboKick is one of the highlights of this schedule,” she added. “We are excited to have a form of kickboxing back at the YMCA.
The class will be instructed by Beth Casper, a certified Turbokick instructor whose enthusiastic instruction style and knowledge of Turbokick will keep participants feeling energized and challenged.
“We are really looking forward to having her as an addition to our current line-up of great instructors,” Schaufelberger concluded.
