Marijuana seized
Van Wert County Sheriff Stan Owens advised that deputies on Tuesday participated with West Central Ohio Crime Task Force units and agents of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in an aerial marijuana eradication effort. The Attorney General’s Office provides aircraft for the eradication effort, which resulted in 145 marijuana plants being found at five separate locations in the county. Each plant at full maturity would have a street value of approximately $1,000, making the total value of the seized marijuana approximately $145,000. The sheriff said the marijuana was spotted in farm fields and around a county residence. One man is being charged with a second-degree felony charge in connection with the marijuana find, with the investigation continuing. (VW Sheriff’s Dept. photo)
