Van Wert tennis team loses to Shawnee

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team had a bad day against Lima Shawnee, losing 5-0 in Western Buckeye League action on Monday.

No.1 singles player Katie Etter played hard, but lost her match 3-6, 6-2, 4-6, while No. 2 singles player was defeated 1-6, 0-6. No. 3 singles player Rachel Curb also lost 0-6, 1-6.

In doubles play, the No. 1 Van Wert doubles team of Claire Butler and Tracey Nuyen lost 0-6, 6-2, 2-6, while the No. 2 doubles team of Sydney Dull and Ali Moreland were blanked 0-6, 0-6.

“We are getting better as a team, and played better than the scores were,” said Van Wert Coach Mitch Price.

The Cougars play the always-tough Lima Central Catholic Thunderbirds today in a non-league match.
