Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $38,000 grant to the YWCA of Van Wert County for its Summer Food Program. The program ensures children receiving free breakfasts and lunches during the school year will not go hungry during their summer vacations.
The YWCA will use the grant for kitchen renovations that will help keep up with the increasing number of children served. These renovations include cabinetry, flooring, ceiling, wall repairs, electrical upgrades, installation of a hand washing sink and a stainless steel island prep space.
“Lowe’s is committed to recognizing and supporting efforts that enrich the lives of our neighbors and customers,” said Marshall Croom, chairman of Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. “By supporting organizations like YWCA of Van Wert County we believe we are contributing to a cause that’s important to our customers and employees and helping build a stronger foundation for our communities.”
Since its inception in 1957, Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has helped communities nationwide through employee volunteerism and financial contributions. In 2011, Lowe’s and the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation together contributed more than $32 million to support communities in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
