VWMS boys win WT Invitational; girls 2nd

GROVER HILL — In their second meet of the season, Van Wert’s Middle School cross country teams traveled to Grover Hill Tuesday evening for the Wayne Trace Invitational.  The boys’ team finished first of nine scoring teams and the girls were second out of a field of six teams.

Seventh grader Thane Cowan again led the charge for the Cougars.  His efforts earned him a third place finish (12:56).  From there, it was Van Wert’s pack that helped secure their final standing: Ryan Keber, fifth (13:08); Jared Shaffer, seventh (13:13); Tyler Nygren, 10th (13:28); Sam Easley, 12th (13:29); Dylan Lautzenheiser, 14th (13:33); and Nathan Murphy, 15th (13:35).

Other Cougar runners competing included: Nick Gutierrez (18th), Cade Chiles (32nd), Ben Scheidt (36th), Max Sealscott (41st), Christopher Frank (53rd), Carter Eikenbary (59th), Korey Oeschle (58th), Stephen Hamblett (74th), Brayden Cox (87th), and Noah Brubaker (96th).

Cassidy Meyers was the leader for the Lady Cougars.  She finished third overall with a time of 14:24.  Natalie Riethman (14:52) and Julia Springer (15:36) finished in 12th and 20th places, respectively. Larissa Laudick, 24th (16:06); and Morgan Bracken, 27th (16:19); rounded out the scorers.  Sammy Allmandinger, 29th (16:38); and Iliana Ramon, 39th (17:25), also contributed to the top seven.

Other runners for the Lady Cougars were Chloe Boroff (45th), Kylee Bagley (47th), Maggie Cripe (53rd), Gabby Van Horne (62nd), Nykee Billingham (65th), Courtney Sanderson (68th), Olivia Profit (70th), Hannah Bartley (75th), and Valerie Barnhart (76th).
