Cougar girls win match over Elida

The Van Wert girls’ tennis team won a hard-fought match over Elida that was closer than the 5-0 final result indicates.

No. 1 Cougar singles player Katie Etter won a tough match, 6-3, 6-4, while Paige Dunlap had an easier time in earning a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles. No. 3 singles player Rachel Chen also cruised through her match, winning 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, the No. 1 Van Wert doubles team of Claire Butler and Tracey Nuyen won 7-5, 6-3, while Sydney Dull and Ali Moreland earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.

Van Wert Coach Mitch Price was pleased with the match results.

“We are playing well and we have great fans that come and support us,” Price said, adding, “This team is only going to get better.”
