Cougar golfers get win over Defiance

The Van Wert Cougar golf team ran away from visiting Defiance, 155-182, on a beautiful day for golf Monday afternoon at Willow Bend Country Club.

The Cougars now move to 7-0 in the Western Buckeye League and will play Wapakoneta on the road Thursday in a battle of the league’s top two teams.

Jacob Brake was once again was medalist in the match, shooting even-par 35. His birdie attempt from five feet on No. 9 that would have put him in the red just lipped out. He was followed closely by teammates Justin Price (37), Tyler Turnwald (40), and Brandon Hernandez (43).

The junior varsity golfers were also victorious with a 209-214 score and were led by Nick Etter and Lane Mansfield, who both shot 50 on the day.
