Knights down Cougars in v-ball battle

CONVOY – It took five games and plenty of moxie for the Crestview Lady Knights to defeat the Van Wert Lady Cougars in volleyball during a non-conference match played Monday at Crestview.
The Ray Etzler Gymnasium was rocking as the two cross-county rivals took it to each other during the hard-fought contest.
The Lady Knights took the first game, 25-20, but then Van Wert rallied to take the next two games, 16-25 and 25-27, to put Crestview in jeopardy of losing the match. The Knights put together their own rally, though, to win the fourth game, 25-19, and then go on to take the fifth and deciding game 15-9.
Crestview is now 8-4 overall and 2-1 in the Northwest Conference, while the Cougars fall to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in the Western Buckeye League.
Leading the way for the Knights were:
Serving – Kristin Hicks, 22/23 with 3 aces; Tianna Rager, 22/22 with 1 ace; Mackenzie Riggenbach, 19/19 with 1 ace; Mekale Clifton, 12/13 with 1 ace; Courtney Trigg, 13/16 with 1 ace; and Haley Helm, 12/13.
Hitting – Hicks, 21 kills; Trigg, 13 kills; Clifton, 8 kills; and Megan Hartman, 5 kills.
Setting – Helm, 22 assists; and Riggenbach, 21 assists.
Digs – Rager, 41 digs; and Hicks, 26 digs.
Blocks – Trigg, 5 stuff blocks.
Leading the way for the Cougars were:
Serving — Riley Jones, 17/18 with 2 aces; Alexa Dunlap, 20/21.
Hitting — Alexis Dowdy, 10 kills; Ashlee Dowdy, Sydney Collins and Dunlap, 6 kills each.
Digs — Collins, 23 digs.
Assists — Jones, 16.
