VWCHD changes immunization policies

Health Department information

Due to large funding cuts to state and federal vaccine programs, the Van Wert County Health Department is now required to change its immunization program payment policies.

Effective October 1, the following changes will go into effect:

  • The Health Department will submit claims to insurance companies of all insurance eligible clients.  This includes all private insurances, Medicaid, Medicare, & supplemental insurance.  If a client’s insurance company is not contracted with the Health Department, the client will be required to pay at the time of service.  It is the client’s responsibility to bring an insurance card to each appointment.  The client is responsible to pay for any copayments or deductibles that have not been met at the time of service.
  • Clients who are 18 years of age or younger and have no insurance or are American Indian or Alaskan native will be charged according to an adjusted fee schedule.
  • Clients who are 19 years old or older and have no insurance will be asked to pay at the time of service.  Vaccine Patient Assistance Programs may be available to clients who qualify for these programs.
  • If private insurance does not fully cover the claim, the client will be billed for the balance.

The Health Department accepts all cash, checks, Discover, VISA, MasterCard and some Health Savings Accounts.  A fee is charged for use of a card depending on the total amount of the bill.

The health and safety of the community remains the top priority of the Health Department. Vaccine is still available for free or reduced fees, but now eligibility will be determined.  It is the goal of the Health Department to make these necessary changes smoothly and efficiently.
