Cougar golfers given year-end honors

Cougar golf information

The Van Wert golf team recently met to review and celebrate a very successful season. The highlights for the Cougars included winning two invitationals, sweeping both the Western Buckeye League regular season and the tournament to take a league leading 10th title in its history. The Cougars also won the 12-team sectional held at Country Acres.

Coach Jeff Hood recognized three seniors, Rob Trittschuh, Tyler Turnwald, and Jacob Brake, who all lettered and contributed a great deal to the success of the team.

Three individuals received all league honors for the second straight year: sophomore Brandon Hernandez, along with seniors Turnwald and Brake (WBL “Player of the Year”).

The three individuals receiving All-WBL honors also were recently honored at the Northwest Ohio Golf Coaches District meetings. Hernandez received honorable mention, Turnwald was second team all-district and Brake received first team recognition.
