Fred W. Varner

Fred W. “Bill” Varner, 73, of Defiance, died Monday, October 29, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Oakwood on July 21, 1939, a son of the late Helen E. (Harmon) Varner. On November 23, 1958, he married Linda (Brewer) Varner, who survives at home.

Other survivors include two sons, Rick (Karen) Varner and Randy (Sara) Varner; a sister, Barbara Ott; one stepsister, Thelma Thomas; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A son, Ron Varner; one brother, Roger Varner; his stepfather, David Thomas; a stepbrother, Donald Thomas; and a great-granddaughter, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, at Den Herder Funeral Home in Paulding, with Bob Verfaillie officiating. Burial will follow in Paulding Memorial Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, and an hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials: Community Health Professionals in Bryan, the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice.
