CONVOY — The Crestview Knights jumped out to a big lead and then cruised to a 62-33 Northwest Conference victory over Delphos Jefferson on Friday night.
The Knights were led by Tyson Bolenbaugh’s 19-point offensive performance, while Cam Etzler added 11 points for Crestview. Freshman Trey Smith was the top scorer for Jefferson with 16 points.
Crestview took a 14-9 lead at the end of the first quarter, and had a seven-point lead, 27-20, at halftime. The Knights then went on a tear, outscoring the Wildcats 23-9 in the third quarter and 12-4 in the final stanza for the victory.
Crestview shot well from the field, hitting 25 of 45 for 55.6 percent. Free throw shooting wasn’t spectacular, though, with the Knights making 6 of 11 at the line for 54.5 percent. Crestview’s aggressive defense shut down the Wildcat offense most of the night, with Jefferson making just 39.1 percent of its field goals (9 of 23) and only two of its three-point attempts (20 percent). Delphos did much better at the line, though, knocking down 13 of 15 for 86.7 percent.
The Knights dominated on the boards, bringing down 25 rebounds (10 on the offensive side), compared to 12 for Jefferson. Crestview had 9 turnovers, compared to 16 for the Wildcats, and eight steals to two for Delphos.
With the win, the Knights remain perfect at 5-0 and are now 1-0 in league play. Delphos Jeff is 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the NWC.
