VW swimmers do well at Lima meet

LIMA — On Saturday, the Van Wert High School boys and girls swim teams traveled to the Lima YMCA to compete with teams from Elida, Lima Bath and St. Marys Memorial. This meet was scored as a triple dual.

The Cougar boys successfully defeated two of the three other schools by the following scores: Lima Bath 47-47, St. Marys Memorial 61-32 and Elida 78-9. The Cougar girls defeated Elida 71-21 and St. Marys 51-43, but fell to Lima Bath 64-30.

Other boys’ results were Lima Bath over St. Marys 62-30, St. Marys over Elida 64-20, and Lima Bath over Elida 74-13. Girls’ results were Lima Bath over St. Marys 69-25, St. Marys over Elida 67-26, and Lima Bath over Elida 76-16.

Van Wert swimmers placing first overall included Adam Jurczyk (200 free), Kase Schalois (200 individual medley), Eric Easley (100 freestyle and 100 backstroke), the boys 200 freestyle relay (Jurczyk, Beckner, Overholt, Trisel) and 400 freestyle relay (Schalois, Overholt, Jurczyk, and Easley).  Girls first place athletes include: Hannah Stemen (100 backstroke), Karlyn Koontz (500 freestyle).
