Camera Club plans 1st meeting of 2013

By Rex Dolby

The Wassenberg Camera Club will hold its first meeting of the new year Thursday, Jan.  10, at 7 p.m. at the Wassenberg Art Center. Christmas Lights will be the competition theme in prints and slides that evening. Up to three 4×6 prints may be submitted for a dollar. Those with no entries are to put a dollar in the “no show” cup to encourage competition.

Since Christmas lights may be found both indoors and out, here’s an opportunity to set up the tripod in the comfort of your home and get some very nice close-ups as well as pictures of the overall scene.

You hearty souls that will shoot outside will need to keep a few suggestions in mind: Have extra batteries in your inside pocket because the cold will drain them quickly. Keep your camera where it won’t get overly warm, because once it’s exposed to the cold air, condensation may form on the lens for several minutes.

One thing you handymen might do is to cut a slot lengthwise in a piece of 2×4 that is at least an inch deep and equal in width to the thickness of the door window. Lower the window, place the block on the window’s edge and use it as a support for the camera so you don’t have to leave your warm car!

We wish you all the best in the New Year!

Wassenberg Art Center hours during exhibits are: Tuesday through Sunday 1–5 p.m. and we are located at 643 South Washington Street in Van Wert. For information call: 419.238.6837, email: info@wassenbergartcenter.org or check us out online at: wassenbergartcenter.org.
