Mabel V. Spieth

Mabel V. Spieth, 101, of Hillsdale, Mich., passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at the McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale.

She was born August 25, 1911, in Van Wert County, the daughter of the late Aden and Sarah (Spangler) Stemen. She was married June 11, 1931, to Kenneth Spieth and he preceded her in death in 1979.

Surviving are four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Shelley) Spieth, James (Sharon) Spieth, Colleen Spieth and Joan Ellenwood; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Amber and Robert; also surviving are extended family at the McGuire Unit in Hillsdale where Mabel spent the past two years.

A son, Robert Spieth; one brother, Burton Stemen; and four sisters, Zelma Baldwin, Letha Ory, Cretora “Bea” Scott, and Nellie Edwards, also preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 11, at VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale, with Pastor Don Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery in Hillsdale.

Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 10, at the funeral home.
