As expected, the Lincolnview-Crestview girls’ basketball matchup went down to the wire, with the Lady Knights pulling it out with less than a second to play when freshman Emily Bauer put in a layup for a 42-41 Northwest Conference victory.
It was another heartbreaker for the Lady Lancers, who have played superb basketball this year, but have come out on the losing end of several close contests.
Lincolnview take what it hoped was a final lead when Katie Dye drove the lane for a layup with seconds left and a 41-40 Lancer lead. But Mackenzie Riggenbach found Bauer open under the basket and the freshman laid one in for the win.
Riggenbach led the Knights with 14 points, while Bauer added 10 points for Crestview. Dye was Lincolnview’s offensive leader with 14 points, while Kaitlyn Brant added 10 for the Lancers.
Lincolnview led by five points, 14-9, after a quarter of play, but the Knights chipped away at that lead and trailed by three, 22-19, at the half. Crestview had a one-point lead, 31-30, at the three-quarter mark after outscoring the Lancers 12-8 in that quarter, and both teams put in 11 points in the final stanza.
The Knights were 17 of 33 from field goal range (51.5 percent), including a 4-for-8 performance from beyond the arc. Crestview was less successful at the free-throw line, hitting only 4 of 10 tries there (40 percent). The Lancers made 13 of 28 field goal attempts (46.4 percent) and were 2 of 7 from three-point range (28.6 percent). Lincolnview canned 13 of 20 free throw attempts (65 percent).
The Lancers led in rebounding with 19 to 13 for Crestview — including 8 offense boards to 4 for the Knights — while Lincolnview had more turnover, 15-14. The Knights had 8 steals to 6 for Lincolnview.
The win gives Crestview a 11-1 record overall and the Knights are 4-0 in the NWC. The Lady Lancers fall to 9-4 overall and 2-2 in league play.
