The Western Buckeye Educational Service Center Governing Board held its organizational and regular January meeting on Wednesday at the Van Wert ESC office at Thomas Edison Center.
Nick Miller was chosen as board president for the new year, while Ron Treece was elected vice president.
With January being “School Board Recognition Month,” Superintendent Brian Gerber recognized Miller, Treece and fellow board members Jerry Zielke, William Poe II and James Grubaugh for their service to the WBESC.
“This is an opportunity for us to take a moment and thank our board members for the time and effort they put forward for the betterment of our schools,” Gerber said. “The board at Western Buckeye Educational Service Center functions with the team concept: they know their role as policy setters and enforce it; they work with the community, staff and administration to make Western Buckeye ESC a productive and effective agency.”
During the meeting, Gerber also reviewed education-related provisions in the “fiscal cliff” deal agreed to by Congress, as well as the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (Obamacare). The board also reviewed the Fiscal Year 2013 budget and IDEA allocation and approved a motion to extend a one-year, prorated classified contract to Tracy Hutchinson as a paraprofessional in the Allen County ESC system, beginning January 2.
The next meeting of the WBESC Governing Board will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 13, at the Paulding ESC office.
