William Martin Hofmann

William Martin Hofmann, 83, of Centerville and formerly of Van Wert, died at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Village in Centerville.

He was born April 3, 1929, in Fort Wayne, Ind., the son of the late William and Emma (Holle) Hofmann. On June 5, 1949, he married Patricia (Imler) Hofmann, who survives in Centerville.

Mr. Hofmann retired from Federal-Mogul Corporation in Van Wert as quality supervisor, after 34 years of service, on July 1, 1984. He then worked as a substitute mail carrier at the Van Wert Post Office before retiring from there in 1994. He was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church in rural Van Wert County. He enjoyed softball, hunting and golf, and was a charter member of The Woods Golf Club. He helped his father farm and received the FFA American Farmer Award after graduating from Van Wert High School in 1947. He was a member of the Van Wert County Farm Bureau.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Jerry (Janice) Hofmann of Beavercreek; and two grandchildren, Andrew and William Hofmann.

A son, Bruce Hofmann; and one brother, Lawrence Hofmann, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 17, at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Timothy Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical Protestant Cemetery in rural Van Wert County.

Calling hours are from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorials: Hospice of Dayton Foundation or “The Lutheran Hour”.
