Lady Cougars get win over Paulding

Van Wert girls’ basketball news

PAULDING — The Van Wert Lady Cougars traveled to Paulding on Tuesday riding a four-game winning streak.  Sparked by a strong first half, they extended that streak, winning by a final score of 44-26 over the Lady Panthers.

Tied at 2-2 early in the first quarter, Van Wert went on a 16-3 run to close out the quarter. They were sparked in large part by their bench, with Emilie Moonshower tossing in 6 points on back-to-back treys.

With another solid defensive effort in the second quarter, the lead stretched to 31-10 at the half, and the Lady Cougars never looked back from there.

Ten players scored for the Lady Cougars, led by Erin Morrow with 9, Moonshower with 8, and Alexis Dowdy with 7.

The Butler sisters, Claire and Livia, led the way on the boards with 6 and 5 rebounds, respectively.

With the win, Van Wert improves to 7-6 on the season and travels to Lima for a Western Buckeye League showdown with Bath on Thursday.
