Lancer girls light up gym with offense
Lancer girls’ basketball news
The Lincolnview Lady Lancers have overcome a lot of adversity this season. They added a new one on Tuesday, though, as a power outage left the gymnasium dimly lit on generator power. Lincolnview kept its composure and ended the night with a 51-32 non-conference victory over the Lady Archers.
The Lancers got off to a good start, outscoring Antwerp 16-5 in the first quarter, but faltered a bit in the second period as the Lady Archers went on a 14-8 run to trail by 5, 24-19, at the half. Lincolnview went on a tear in the second half, outscoring the Archers 27-13 in the half for the win.
With the win, the Lancers go to 10-4 on the year, while Antwerp falls to 3-10 on the season.
Lincolnview was led offensively by Katie Dye, who scored 14 points in the game, while Julie Thatcher added 12 points for the Lancers. Antwerp’s Alexis Jones was the game’s top scorer with 16 points, with Kaiya Jemison adding 10 points for the Lady Archers.
Lincolnview shot 50 percent from the field (24 of 48) and also made half of its free throws (2 of 4). Antwerp was 11 of 28 from the field (39.3 percent) and was 8 of 15 at the line (53.3 percent).
The Archers had the edge in rebounding, 20-16, but had more turnovers, 10-25, as well. The Lancer defense came up with 22 steals in the game and eight assists to none for Antwerp. Lincolnview worked well inside, hitting 46 of its 51 points inside the paint, compared to 24 for the Archers.
The Lancer junior varsity team also won, but a score wasn’t posted.
