The Knights led by only one point, 9-8, at the end of the first quarter, but opened up a 10-point lead, 25-15, by halftime, thanks to a 16-7 second-quarter run.

The Cougars came back though, to cut the lead to six after outscoring Crestview 10-6 in the third quarter. But Van Wert couldn’t generate offense when it needed it and fell to the Knights in the final stanza, thanks to a 13-9 fourth-quarter run.

The Cougars held Crestview’s high-scoring Emily Bauer to just 4 points in the game, but Mackenzie Riggenbach stepped up to score 14 points in the game, while Kennis Mercer and Lindsey Motycka each added 8 points for the Lady Knights.

Van Wert was led by Alexis Dowdy’s 9 points, while Erin Morrow and Claire Butler each added 8 points for the Lady Cougars.

Crestview had a total of seven players in the scoring column, while six Cougar players produced points.

With the win, the Lady Knights go to 14-1 on the year, while Van Wert falls to 7-8 overall.

Crestview also won the junior varsity game, 23-12.

The Cougars will next play on Thursday at Celina for a Western Buckeye League match-up, while the Knights will also return to league play on Thursday with a Northwest Conference contest at Spencerville.
