Lancer girls eke out win over LCC

The Lincolnview Lady Lancers got an early lead, but had to hold off a furious charge by Lima Central Catholic to defeat the Lady Thunderbirds 46-44 in Northwest Conference action on Thursday.
The Lancers led 12-6 at the end of the first period and maintained that lead, 22-16, at the half. Lincolnview outscored the T-Birds 15-11 in the third quarter to go up by 10, 37-27, heading into the final stanza, but the Lancer girls had to hit their free throws down the stretch to hold off LCC’s game-ending rally.
Kaitlyn Brant was the game’s high scorer with 18 points, while teammate Katie Dye added 12 points for Lincolnview. Julia Thatcher and Claire Dye each had 7 points for the Lancers. Meredith Shepherd led the T-Birds with 17 points, while Sydney Santaguida added 14 points for LCC.
Lincolnview made 15 of 35 two-point attempts (44.1 percent), but missed all six shots from three-point range for an overall field goal percentage of 36.6. The Lady Lancers were 16 of 24 at the free throw line (66.7 percent). LCC hit 17 of 47 two-point tries (36.2 percent) and were 4 of 16 from three-point range (25 percent) for an overall field goal shooting average of 33.3 percent. The T-Birds were 6 of 11 at the charity stripe (54.5 percent).
LCC had the edge in turnovers, 25-22, while both teams had 18 turnovers on the night.
With the win, Lincolnview is 12-4 on the season and 4-2 in the NWC. The T-Birds fall to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The Lancer junior varsity team also won, 40-36, and are 9-5 on the year.
