Knights get NWC win over Spencerville

CONVOY — The Crestview Knights handed the Spencerville Bearcats their first league loss on Friday with a 58-49 Northwest Conference win in Ray Etzler Gymnasium.

The Knights had four players in double figures, led by freshman Connor Lautzenheiser’s 20 points. Also scoring in double figures were Tyson Bolenbaugh (13 points), Cam Etzler (12 points) and Damian Helm (10 points). Leading scorers for Spencerville included Zach Goecke and Dominick Corso, both with 12 points, and Ben Bowers, who had 11 points on the night.

Crestview made 18 of 38 field goal attempts (47.4 percent), but that included only 2 of 13 from three-point range. The Knights were 20 of 25 from the free-throw line (80 percent). The Bearcats hit 18 of 40 field goal attempts (45 percent), including 4 of 13 from three-point range (30.8 percent). Spencerville canned 9 of 14 from the charity stripe (64.3 percent).

Crestview had 9 turnovers in the game, compared to 11 for the Bearcats, while also having the edge in rebounding, 20-17.

With the win, the Knights go to 12-2 overall and 3-2 in the NWC, while Spencerville is now 7-5 overall and 4-1 in league play.

Crestview will host Continental tonight in a non-conference game and will also play both days next weekend, starting with a league contest at Allen East and then back home to host Hicksville in a non-conference match-up.
