Lancers fall to Delphos St. John’s girls

DELPHOS — The Lincolnview Lady Lancers couldn’t solve Delphos St. John’s man-to-man defense, losing to the Lady Jays 43-28 in a non-conference basketball game played Tuesday at St. John’s.

The Lady Blue Jays got off to a good start with an 8-point lead, 19-11, at the end of the first quarter. Neither team shot well during the second stanza, although Lincolnview cut a basket off Delphos’ lead with a 4-2 run that made the score 21-15 at the half. St. John’s outscored the Lady Lancers 22-13 in the second half to run away with the win.

The Lady Lancers made just 9 of 41 field goal attempts (22 percent), including 1 of 8 from three-point range (12.5 percent), and were 9 of 22 from the free throw line (40.9 percent). St. John’s hit 13 of 40 from field goal range (35 percent), including 2 of 15 (13.3 percent) of its three-point attempts. The Lady Jays were 13 of 22 from the line (59.1 percent).

St. John’s controlled the boards, bringing down 32 rebounds to 23 for the Lancers. Turnovers were about even, with 10 for Lincolnview and 11 for the Blue Jays.

St. John’s Katie Vorst was the game’s high scorer with 12 points and was the only player on either team in double figures. Katie Dye led the Lancers with 7 points, while Hannah McCleery and Julie Thatcher added 6 points for Lincolnview.

With the win, Delphos is now 7-9 overall, while the Lady Lancers fall to 11-5 on the year.

The Lincolnview junior varsity team won its game, 35-22, to go to 11-5 overall.
