VWHS Robotics Team qualifies for state
VWHS information
The Van Wert High School Robotics team recently competed in the first Tech Challenge (FTC) Ohio Southwestern Qualifying tournament and placed fifth out of 28 teams. In addition, the team received second place for the “Inspire” award, the most prestigious award in FTC that is given to teams that are considered to be all-around model teams.
The VWHS Robotics team qualified for the Ohio state finals, which will be held in Cincinnati on February 16. The traveling team is made up of four seniors (Alex Bair, Andrew Todd, Noah Edwards, and Matt Saunier), two juniors (Andrew Price and Andrew Dingle), and two freshmen (Daniel Wray and Wade Healey).
Coaches Bob Spath and Zane McElroy are both extremely excited to be coaching these very creative and motivated students and are excited to compete for a state championship in only the second year of the Robotics Team.
The team is entirely funded through corporate and private donations from Eaton Corporation, Professional Computer Company of Lima, Kennedy Manufacturing, and Braun Industries. In addition, VWHS graduates Tom Compton and Randy Gardner, using seed money provided through The Van Wert County Foundation, have provided the vision and funds to support this successful team.
Anyone interested in helping support the VWHS Robotics Club should contact one of the coaches. The Robotics team will compete against top teams for a spot in the world championships.
