Richard H. Akom

Richard H. “Doder” Akom, 74, of Scott, died at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2013, at Vancrest Health Care Center in Van Wert.

He was born December 20, 1938, in Van Wert, the son of the late Eugene and Marcelle (Gause) Akom.

Survivors include six stepchildren, Robert Meggitt of Indianapolis, John Meggitt, Karen Meggitt Laurie Bergman and Amy (Jeff) Cotterman, all of Scott, and Kristin (Dustin) Fitch of Sebring, Fla.; and 19 stepgrandchildren.

A stepdaughter, Tammy S. Gibson; five brothers, James, Robert, Donald, Morris and Daniel Akom; and three sisters, MaryLou Tarlton, Jean A. Mullins and Becky Ladd, also preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 9, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home & Crematory in Van Wert. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery.

Calling hours are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, February 8, at the funeral home.
