Easley, Schalois qualify for state meet

BOWLING GREEN — The Van Wert High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams traveled to Bowling Green State University for the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Division II district tournament on February 15.  Overall, Van Wert earned 53 points, placing 18th out of 34 teams.

Eric Easley is the Division II district champion and new DII district record holder (53.58) in the 100-yard backstroke. Kase Schalois placed second in the diving competition, earning 425.20 points.

Head Coach Kim Clifton said she is pleased to be making another presence at the state swim meet, both in diving and swimming. “The entire district team has done a great job; there have been some awesome swims,” she noted.

Easley (200-yard individual medley and 100-yard backstroke) and Schalois (1-meter diving) will travel to Canton McKinley High School for the Division II State Swimming/Diving Tournament. Diving is scheduled for Wednesday, with Division II swimming to take place Thursday and Friday.

100-yard Backstroke — first (53.58 – Eric Easley)

400-yard Freestyle Relay – 22nd (3:38.56, Schalois, Dan Silette, Jurczyk, Easley)
