St. John’s ends Lancer boys’ season

The Lincolnview Lancers couldn’t get untracked and it cost them in a 59-40 loss to Delphos St. John’s in a Division IV sectional finals game played Friday at Van Wert High School.

The Blue Jays took a four-point lead, 12-8, in the first quarter and then nearly doubled Lincolnview’s offensive output in the second stanza, outscoring the Lancers 24-13 to go up by 15 points, 36-21, at the half. St. John’s added five points to the lead, to an even 20 points, with a 12-7 third quarter run and then coasted to the win in the final period.

Nick Leeth led Lincolnview with 12 points, while Kyle Williams was held to 8 points in the game. After a subpar scoring game earlier in the week, Curtis Geise came through Friday with 16 points to lead St. John’s, while Ryan Buescher and Ryan Koester each had 10 points for the ‘Jays.

Lincolnview was 16 of 41 from the field (39 percent), while the Blue Jays made 22 of 47 field goal attempts (46.8 percent). The Lancers made 7 of 10 free throw attempts (70 percent), versus 10 of 12 (83.3 percent) for St. John’s.

The Blue Jays dominated on the boards, bringing down 30 rebounds to 17 for Lincolnview, while the Lancers had one fewer turnover, 16-17, than St. John’s.

With the win, St. John’s goes to 17-5, while the Lancers end their season at 10-13 overall.
