Lincoln Highway 100th birthday in 2013
Lincoln Highway news
This year, the nation will be observing the Lincoln Highway’s 100th birthday, and Van Wert will be no exception.

There will be hundreds of classic cars in three tours traveling through Van Wert County on the Lincoln Highway (old U.S. 30 and Van Wert’s Main Street) in May, June and July. The Van Wert Convention and Visitors Bureau is coordinating local activities, in association with regional and national highway events.
One of the unique, local projects is creation of a history booklet of the highway in Van Wert County.
The Van Wert County Lincoln Highway Centennial Committee will be hosting an open house and meeting for the public at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, at the Historical Society Museum’s Annex Building. The purpose of this meeting is to gather photographs, documents, memorabilia and stories related to the local history of the Lincoln Highway. This is an opportunity to share one’s family’s history related to the Lincoln Highway.
There will be a short presentation at 2:30 p.m. that day by museum staff on the Lincoln Highway items and documents maintained by the Historical Society.
The museum will be open from 2-4:30 p.m. on that day to offer an opportunity for people to tour the museum and other buildings on the society’s grounds.
Questions in advance of the meeting may be directed to the offices of the CVB and Main Street Van Wert, 136 E. Main St. in Van Wert, or call 419.238.3978 or 419.238.6911. Those who lend material and photographs to the Committee will have all items returned to them. Items may also be donated to the Van Wert County Historical Society.
