Bands, choirs headed for state contest

VWHS music dept. news

On March 8-9, the Van Wert High Music Department hosted the Ohio Music Education Association District Band and Choir Contest.

Bands and choirs from across the region performed for judges and received ratings. The contest was held at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center. Special thanks for hosting duties should be extended to the entire Van Wert music staff.

The event could not have run smoothly without the help of Hugh Saunier and his NPAC technical crew, or Mark Hartman and the series of ushers he organized, as well the Van Wert Band Parents for organizing concessions for the event and students of the music program for working shifts to help judges and escort ensembles.

OMEA thanked the Niswonger Performing Arts Center staff, the Van Wert Area Performing Arts Foundation and Van Wert City Schools for use of the facility.

The following local bands received a Superior rating and qualified for state contest: Crestview, Spencerville, Van Wert, and Parkway.

The following local choirs received a Superior rating and qualified for state contest: Spencerville Concert Choir, Wayne Trace, Spencerville Women’s Choir, Van Wert Concert Choir, Paulding.
