Lancer boys lose by 1 to Ft. Recovery

Lincolnview baseball news

The Lincolnview Lancer baseball team was edged by Fort Recovery, 3-2, in a non-conference baseball game played at home on Tuesday.

Lincolnview scored a run in the bottom of the first inning to start the scoring and led 1-0 until the third, when the Indians scored to knot the game at 1-1. Fort Recovery took the lead in the fifth inning with two runs scored, and the Lancers added a run in the bottom of the fifth, but that was the end of the scoring in the game.

Kyle Williams started the game on the mound for the Lancers, pitching six innings and giving up three runs.

“We played well defensively and Kyle Williams really did a good job of making hitters put the ball into play and letting his defense work for him,” said Lincolnview Coach Kevin Longstreth.

Williams also was most of the Lancer offense, as he went 2 for 3 with a couple of doubles and a run batted in. Derek Friesner had the only other hit for Lincolnview, going 1 for 3 and earning the other RBI.

“I expected our offense to do better than what they showed out there,” Coach Longstreth said. “Three hits will not get it done in many games.”

The Lancer coach did note that the game was only the second time outside for his team all spring, so he sees plenty of room for improvement over the season.

“We had opportunities to win and plan to continue being in those situations all year,” he added.’

Lincolnview’s next game will be today at home against the Van Wert Cougars, starting at 4:30 p.m.
