CVB has summer event info available

VW Area Convention & Visitors Bureau news

With the summer travel season rapidly approaching, the Van Wert Area Convention and Visitors Bureau has several publications available in its office that will be of interest to area residents.

The Ohio Development Services Agency, Office of Tourism Ohio, has recently published several travel related booklets.  The local CVB office has copies of the Official State Travel Guide that contains listings of points of interest and lodging facilities across the entire state. Also available is the 2013 Ohio Spring/Summer Calendar of Events, containing a select list of events statewide occurring through the month of August.  Local Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Larry Lee reports that 23 Van Wert County events were selected to be included in this publication.

Lee also wants area residents to know that the local 2013 Spring/Summer Events Calendar is now available at the CVB office.

This brochure contains a detailed listing of all Van Wert area events happening through August 3. “I think the public is will be surprised at the number of things going on locally,” Lee said. “There are some 93 events during the spring and summer.”

The State Office of Tourism has also released six specialty booklets providing specific itineraries on six different topics. “Culinary Retreats” provides information about gourmet restaurants, fun food festivals, esteemed vineyards and cooking classes.

“Ohio Sports and Recreation” has information about outdoor adventures including bicycling, Ohio’s State Parks, hiking, and skiing, birding, fishing, hunting, camping, spectator sports, golfing, and extreme sports like soaring, rock climbing, and scuba diving.

“Ohio’s Cities, Culture and Cuisine” has information about Ohio’s largest cities, wineries, markets, gardens, outdoor theaters, Appalachian Arts, and culinary escapes.  Ohio’s cultural landscape is anything but one-dimensional.

Multicultural Excursions” contains itineraries where you can learn more about the contributions of African Americans, Asians, and Hispanics.

Ohio’s Family Fun will provide you with details about Ohio’s amusement parks, water parks, zoos, interactive museums, scenic railroads, and some unusual roadside oddities.

Thinking about planning a family reunion?  If so, Family Reunions and Gatherings will provide suggestions for theme parks, water parks, zoos and aquariums, camping, RVing, golf getaways, spa escapes, music festivals and hands-on history trips.

All of this information, plus many other travel brochures, is available at the Van Wert Area Convention and Visitors Center at 136 E. Main Street.  Stop in and begin planning a family vacation close to home.
