Local 3Rivers Credit Union office closing

Information submitted

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – 3Rivers Credit Union will be closing its Van Wert Ohio Branch on June 15. The decision to close was based on declining membership, fewer branch transactions and the growing trend by members to use online banking, mobile banking and ATMs.

3Rivers recently notified employees and members of the planned closing. All 3Rivers employees have been given the opportunity to stay with 3Rivers in other capacities. Members were also notified of the many ways they can continue to do business with 3Rivers.

“While the decision to close a branch is never an easy one, 3Rivers is obligated to act in the best interest of our membership,” said Don Cates, 3Rivers’ CEO and President. “The amount of business taking place is insufficient to cover the costs of operating the branch.”

Also, many members are utilizing secure online and mobile banking services to make deposits, open accounts, apply for loans and transfer funds from their computer or mobile devices. “It is no longer necessary for members to visit a branch when we are always open online and on their mobile devices,” Cates said.

3Rivers will remain open in St. Marys. 3Rivers also has 17 other locations in northeast Indiana and participates in shared credit union branching.

In addition, 3Rivers members have access to 33,000 surcharge free ATMs nationwide. Eleven of those ATMs are located in a 20-mile radius of the Van Wert service area and most accept deposits.
