Off Stage production well worth seeing

Off Stage Productions presents a fun filled comedy at the Senior Center in Van Wert. Any Wednesday is being performed April 19, 20, 26, 27, with a matinee performance April 21. Doors open at 6: 30 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. and the show at 8 p.m. For the matinee doors open at 12:30 p.m. with dinner at 1 p.m. and the show at 2 p.m.

Any Wednesday is a happy comedy that takes place in the 1966, back in the days of dial phones and parlor games. John is a well-to-do businessman who is cheating on his high society wife with a young mistress. All the action takes place in a garden apartment that is supposed to be the executive suite of John’s company. John has a new secretary who is not aware of the true use of the apartment. When John’s wife shows up unexpectedly she is sent to the executive suite to see her husband.

A young man has come to the apartment to confront John about a business deal, and he is attracted to the beautiful mistress from the start. She is screaming at him to leave when John’s wife, Dorothy, shows up. She assumes the young couple there are married and thinks she has walked in on a newlywed’s quarrel. They go along with her mistake, and then John comes back. The complications keep coming through two hilarious acts until Dorothy finally figures out what is really going on.

The play is perfectly cast. A real life married couple, Ed and Lisa Eichler, plays John and Dorothy. The mistress is Eleesha Long, and Dan Hirn plays the young businessman. David and Jane Lianez direct the show.

Van Wert is really blessed to have so much talent willing to donate their time and energy to present these productions. Any Wednesday ran for years on Broadway, was made into a very successful movie and has been presented all over the country ever since. You would pay many times the price to see this in any city. The delicious meal is catered by Grant’s Catering.

Come out and see the show. It is definitely worth it. In Dorothy’s words, “It is a jolly show, simply marvelous.”
